WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Colorado Republican Party asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday to intervene after a ruling by Colorado’s highest court that excluded Donald Trump from the party’s primary in the state, said a lawyer for the Republican group.

This appeal comes after the Colorado Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that Donald Trump could not appear on the ballot in the Republican primary in the state because of his role in the events of January 6, 2021.

The Court based its decision on a provision of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution prohibiting anyone who has taken part in “insurrection or rebellion” from holding public office.

Donald Trump, candidate for the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election, is also expected to appeal.
