Residents in shock – corpse in Vienna cellar: “Reminiscent of Ice Lady”

Residents from the small town of Hundsturm in Vienna-Margareten are stunned: a badly decomposed corpse was found in a basement there by construction workers on Tuesday. Buried under rubble, the lifeless body is said to have been there for a while. “A scary story like that of the ice lady,” one of the residents remembers the case from 2011.

“I couldn’t help the police because I haven’t noticed anything suspicious recently,” says the Armenian operator of a shoe service shop at the same address, perplexed. A day earlier, workers during renovation work in one of the cellars on Margaretener Bräuhausgasse had discovered the body, which was already badly decomposed. They suffered a great shock. But word of the hideous event quickly spreads in the neighborhood: the two students Donata and Franziska jumped in fright when they found out about the corpse in the basement. What seems clear: the corpse was hidden in the basement a long time ago. However, the police will still clarify whether it was murder or manslaughter. A possible “murder motive” is just as unclear as the identity of the dead person. Case leaves amateur criminals speculating “Our criminals are investigating in all directions,” says Julia Schick, press spokeswoman for the Vienna police. Hobby criminals believe that a deceased person may have been hidden by relatives or acquaintances in order to be able to continue collecting their income, pension, etc. Case is reminiscent of that of the “Ice Lady” If you look back into the past, there are some parallels to the case of the “Ice Lady” from 2011. Estibaliz Carranza had murdered two men and she also had the body parts in a basement compartment under her ice cream parlor hidden in Vienna-Meidling. Her terrible secret was also revealed at that time due to repair work in the basement.
