On March 3rd, Switzerland will vote on a 13th AHV pension. The committee behind the popular initiative for the 13th AHV pension has launched its voting campaign.
It bases its demand on rising living costs, such as rent and health insurance.
The initiative “For a better life in old age (initiative for a 13th AHV pension)” wants AHV recipients to be entitled to a “thirteenth”. This should be an annual supplement amounting to one twelfth of your annual pension.

It must be ensured that the supplementary benefits are not reduced. Nobody who is currently entitled to supplementary benefits should lose this. The initiative does not provide any guidelines for financing the additional pension.
The committee claims that inflation and health insurance premiums have eaten up a monthly pension since 2021. Inflation and low interest rates led to pension fund pensions shrinking, despite higher wage contributions. Trade unions, parties and senior citizens’ organizations are behind the initiative.
