In the basketball world in 2023, all eyes were on Victor Wembanyama. On June 22, the 19-year-old from Ile-de-France was the first French player in history to be selected in first position in the NBA draft. The 2.24 meter phenom was chosen by the San Antonio Spurs to become the franchise’s new flagship player under the legendary Gregg Popovich. During the 2022/2023 season, Victor Wembanyama played for Metropolitans 92, with whom he reached the final of the Betclic Elite playoffs, lost to AS Monaco. At the end of this season, he was voted best player, defender and hopeful of the competition.
