The Republicans are also making their political comeback this last weekend in August. In Le Cannet, several thousand activists gathered with the president of the right-wing party, Eric Ciotti. The latter notably wanted to reaffirm the position of his party by the presidential election of 2027.
Nearly 3,000 activists gathered this Sunday around the president of the Republicans, Eric Ciotti, to launch the political return of the historic right-wing party. For his entry, the latter wanted to mark the occasion by sounding Les Lacs du Connemara, with a nod to the controversy of the summer. Because in Cannet, LR activists listen to Michel Sardou and continue to believe in the right, like Rose-Marie, retired. “We are waiting for someone who carries our word. It can be Eric Ciotti or someone from the movement, but we always believe in it. I have always been a faithful party. I stay the course because I believe that ideas are always the right ones,” said the activist.
“We were elected in the opposition”
On stage and in stifling heat, for lack of air conditioning, the leader of the party gives a long speech and tries to clarify the position of the Republicans vis-à-vis the executive. “We are a party of government, we were elected in the opposition, but we are an opposition which wants to be useful and responsible for our nation”, hammered Eric Ciotti.
The return to school continues with a banquet to the rhythm of popular songs. Next week, the boss of the right will meet the President of the Republic to whom he will submit his proposals to move the country forward. “We are ready to defend the general interest, but on the basis of our convictions”, finally confided Eric Ciotti, before sitting down alongside Laurent Wauquiez in particular.
