From Ethereum Name Service to ENS: the loop is closed for eth.link
It had passed from one hand to the other. And we had to go through a judge, but True Names Ltdwhich is the parent company of theEthereum Name Servicefinally managed to regain control of the eth.link domain name.
In a complaint filed on September 9 in the District Court for the District of Arizona in the United States, True Names Ltd accused GoDaddy for violating the eth.link domain name registration agreement.
GoDaddy would have wrongly considered that the domain name had expired and had sold it to third parties. Eth.link found a taker with Dynadotwho subsequently resold it toDeFi aggregator Manifold Finance.

Back home: a (perhaps) temporary legal victory for the ENS
True Names therefore had to take the necessary legal steps to regain possession of the domain name. Recently, the founder of ENS, Nick Johnson, spoke of a victory in “the complaint against GoDaddy, the court having granted our request for a preliminary injunction”.
Nick Johnson also pointed out that the court had ordered the return of eth.link to True Names. A statement that goes in the direction of the judge’s decision. Indeed, the latter requires the immediate transfer of “ownership of the domain to the plaintiffs”.
Nevertheless, these words of Nick Johnson contrast with those of the founder of Manifold Finance, Sam Bacha. He hinted at another story. The DNS would still be in escrow in accordance with the injunction, and that in this context, they would not have been transferred to True Names.
To these technical details that drown the fish to qualify the victory of True Names, Nick Johnson reacted. He thus confirmed that eth.link has been returned in full to the company, “pending the outcome of the legal case”.
However, he does not rule out the possibility of a “future dispute” between GoDaddy or other actors, but in the meantime, Nick Johnson insists on the essentials: ” for the moment, it is really returned to us “.
Eth.link is used as a gateway to access an ENS address with the .eth extension, such Ethereum domain names including the number crossed the 2 million markin August of this year.
