Yes, you heard right: There is finally a new eyeshadow trend on the make-up horizon! This look has taken social media by storm. And rightly so – because it makes us look glamorous and sexy at the same time. It’s so easy to recreate the make-up look.

Yay! Finally there is a make-up look for everyone who prefers to avoid the paint pot when it comes to eye shadow. We already know and love smokey eyes. The reverse cat eyes now turn our favorite look on its head: the dark eye shadow is not applied to the eyelid but to the lower lash line and is therefore different from the traditional look.

Reverse Cat Eyes – He started the trend!

Makeup artist Spencer (@paintedbyspencer) recently started the trend on TikTok. Since then, thousands of users have recreated the iconic look that we have often seen on Kim Kardashian. But the first look at the video is shocking: Spencer immediately starts with a thick, black line under his eye! Maybe that’s why over two million people clicked on his video – just to see what would become of this supposed false start.

Face lift included

We love the cat eye shape for several reasons: not only does it visually enlarge our eyes, but by emphasizing the lower lash line, the make-up trend also gives us an almond-like eye shape á la Gigi Hadid. Another plus: The cat-eye technique visually lifts our eye area – because the eyeshadow is blended upwards towards the temple, which leads to an immediate lifting effect.

Preparation is everything

For the perfect “reverse cat eye” look, you should first prepare your eyelid and lower lash line with an eyeshadow primer or concealer. Simply apply generously and work into the skin. Then fix your base with a little powder – this way the make-up look stays in place for a long time.

Step by step to the trend look

Now take a slanted eyeliner brush and use it to paint a medium brown eyeshadow of your choice. Tap the brush well so that you don’t pick up too much product. Then press the color very close to your lower lash line. It’s best to start in the middle and slowly work your way to the outer corner of your eye, following the natural shape of your waterline. When you get to the outer eyelid, you now move the line a little further up, similar to if you were drawing an eyeliner.

Blending is the most important step to the perfect finish

Now grab a very small, tapered brush to blend the still hard black line on the lower lash line. To do this, go over the line you just drew in windshield wiper movements. If too much color is lost during blending, repeat the previous step again and build up the color until you are satisfied with the intensity.

This trick visually changes the shape of your eyes

The inner corners should not be neglected when creating the look. Only emphasizing the small point in the inner corner of the eye leads to the desired cat-eye effect. The best way to achieve this is to use a brown, waterproof eyeliner pencil. Here, too, you simply follow your natural eyelash line with the eyeliner and carefully feel your way to the right shape. A Q-tip is your best friend! Soak the cotton swab in make-up remover and repair any mistakes.

The look is intensified with kajal or eyeliner

If you prefer a very dramatic look, you can use black eyeliner or gel eyeliner. To do this, apply the product roughly to the lower and upper water lines. The larger you spread the product, the more intense the look will be.

Don’t forget the eyelid crease

A gentle definition of the eye crease should not be missing from this make-up look. This can be done quickly with a fluffy brush and light brown eye shadow. To do this, apply and blend the eyeshadow as usual. Finally, add mascara and voilá – the reverse cat eyes are ready!
