REVIEW Extinction: A Space Expedition Before Starfield

You may have already come across Guy-Roger Duvert in our columns in the past. Feature film director Virtual Revolution, a recognized musical composer, he is also a writer of science fiction novels and comics. We had also had the opportunity to publish an opinion on the comic strip Virtual Revolution, as well as interviewing him on video at a Cannes show. On August 14, his new book was released, which immerses us in the first space expedition outside the solar system. This is not a first attempt for the writer, the Outsphere series already offered a similar subject. Extinction, however, offers a story as close as possible to reality. We are a few centuries after our era, a time when humanity wants to emancipate. Not by colonizing and fleeing the earth, but rather through the prism of knowledge.

Head in the stars before the big Starfield trip.

The profession of cosmonaut has somewhat metamorphosed to that of archaeonaut. Indeed, alien ruins discovered on mars, have made it possible to get their hands on some great technology. Reinforced by this knowledge coming from an extinct civilization, humanity is now searching for any trace of alien structure across the galaxy. After identifying five promising planets, a team is sent on site to study pre-selected sites.

Where is the realistic aspect in all that you will tell me? Well first of all, part of the novel describes how our society has survived the crises we are currently experiencing. Certainly there is fantasy in the explanation, but a good deal of lucidity as well… Secondly, part of the expeditionn narrated space is based on real facts. The first star system and the planet where the archaeonauts go, do exist. You can also draw the true from the false at the end of the book, the author having added a few pages on the subject.

What is on these worlds, on the other hand, is much more fantasized… which leaves room for a plot that hooks from start to finish. The mission will obviously not go as planned, but the problems will accumulate in all directions. This almost creates several stories in one, with as always in the writings of Guy-Roger Duvert reflections that pull the reader. What decision should be made in the face of such or such an extreme situation? Knowing that there is usually a difficult choice, most of the time…

Finally, know that a sequel is now guaranteed, in 10 days the novel propelled itself to the top 1 of Amazon sales! Moreover, if you want to crack, it’s here that it happens: Extinction book for €19.99. In short, you will understand, we recommend this readingperfect for having your head in the stars before the big trip Starfield. Even if some elements are a little predictable, it is pleasant to discover how the protagonists themselves will proceed. Who knows, you could also learn things while having funa nice little extra, right?
