Rheinfelden: 33-year-old dies in boat accident

A sports boat crashed into a wall near Rheinfelden on Thursday evening. A 33-year-old woman was killed, the drunk driver and two other people were injured.

lips A fatal boat accident occurred in Rheinfelden in the canton of Aargau on Thursday evening. A sports boat registered in Germany and launched on the German side crashed into a wall at the river pool in Rheinfelden, according to the Aargau canton police.

Police received the call around 10 p.m. Due to the unclear situation and the darkness, an extensive search and rescue operation was immediately triggered, in which several boats and three helicopters were involved.

Boat driver was drunk

Four people, all from Germany, were recovered and brought ashore. A 33-year-old woman was no longer responsive during the rescue, writes the cantonal police. Despite attempts at resuscitation, she died.

The 37-year-old boatman and the other two passengers – an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old – suffered minor to moderate injuries. According to the police, the boatman was under the influence of alcohol and a blood and urine sample was ordered for him.

Prosecutors opened a criminal investigation and confiscated the leaking boat for further investigation. The exact circumstances of the accident are the subject of the investigation.
