Almost a month after the election of Miss France 2022, it is the turn of the most handsome man in France to be designated this Saturday, January 8. The Mister Universel France election will take place under somewhat special conditions due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Indeed, the public will ultimately not be able to attend the ceremony, organized at the Admiral hotel (four stars) in La Tour de Salvagny, north-west of Lyon. The ceremony will be broadcast live on the organization’s website.
Two positive candidates for Covid
Twelve candidates are in the running from different metropolitan regions and overseas. They should have been fourteen but two of them, Mister Rhône-Alpes and Mister Guadeloupe, have tested positive for Covid and will therefore not be able to compete.
The regional Misters have been present at the hotel since Tuesday, January 4 for a week that promises to be intense. They will do rehearsals, shoots, shoots, fittings for the evening of the election and general culture tests in order to be ready for D-Day.
At the end of this week, eight candidates will be shortlisted for the final while a ninth will be chosen by the public, who can vote until January 8.
They can be a couple or tattooed
Created in 2017, the Mister Universel France competition aims to be “the true reflection of its time”. Thus, the election is open to men measuring at least 1m75 and, unlike the Miss, they can be a couple or married, but also tattooed.
The organization stresses that the selection criteria “are based on harmonious physical qualities but also on the spirit and human qualities of the candidate, as a future ambassador of France abroad”.
The one who will succeed Lyonnais Mavryck Clavel, crowned Mister Universel France 2021, will represent France in international competitions, such as Mister Supranational, Mister Global and Mister World.

These competitions that put men in the spotlight
The female beauty contests monopolize the front of the scene in the Hexagon. The best known of them, Miss France, attracts several million viewers each year when it is broadcast on TF1.
Less exposed in the media, competitions for men are nonetheless numerous. Mister France is arguably the most famous. Created in 1993, this competition crowns each year a candidate aged 18 to 28, measuring at least 1m78. The latest, Bilal Malek, won the title of Mister France 2021.
More unusual, the competition Mister France Agricole each year rewards a farmer. Not really a beauty contest but rather an event intended to promote the agricultural world and to give a positive image of the profession. Note that the Miss France Agricole version also exists.
