Richard Roat, iconic actor of Friends, Dallas and Dynasty is dead


Richard Roat, famous for his roles in the series Dallas, Friends, or Dynasty, died this month of August at the age of 89.

The world of the small screen is in mourning. As revealed by our colleagues from the Los Angeles Times, the actor Richard Roat is dead “suddenly” on August 5 in Orange County, California, at the age of 89. His death was announced by his family, who however did not not specified the causes of his death.

Born in 1933 in Hartford, Richard Roat has endorsed more than 135 roles throughout his career, but viewers remember him most for his many appearances on the small screen. The actor has indeed played in some of the most famous series of American television. After holding a recurring role in the 1960s in The Doctorswhere he performed the role of Doctor Jerry Chandler for 172 episodes, he appeared in The Fugitive, On the Trail of Crime, Kojack, Fantasy Island, Happy Days, Dallas, Charlie’s Angels, Dynasty, Baywatch, or The prince of Bel-Air. Viewers were also able to see him in the series Our Beautiful Family, Crazy About You, Melrose Place, Seinfeld, Seven at Home, Cold Case as well as Dynasty. The fans of Friends also remembered for his role as Burt, a colleague of Ross Geller, played by David Schwimmer, in the cult comedy series. In 2009, Richard Roat last appeared on television in 24 Hours stopwatchalongside Kiefer Sutherland.

“His greatest love was his family”

In addition to his stellar acting career, he has worked successfully for more than 50 years as a tax preparer in the entertainment industry. As a person, he was a true Renaissance man. He loved music, playing the violin, theatre, cinema, literature, provocative conversations and a good whiskey (…) He had a wonderful smile, a mischievous glint in his eye and loved chatting with everyone. His greatest love was his family with whom he shared his incredible sense of humor, his intelligence and his unequaled joie de vivre., added The Los Angeles Times. With this death, Richard Roat leaves behind him his wife Kathyto whom he had been married for 40 years.
