“If they don’t want to naturalise, I don’t see why they should be allowed to vote”
“Personally, I am totally against it,” he said on Europe 1. “I would prefer to advance the cause of naturalization. We have a certain number of inhabitants who wish to be naturalized from now on. No difficulty in doing so, of course, with the help of the prefects. And to expedite this with the town halls”, he underlines.
“You don’t buy a vote with a tax”
On the other hand, Karl Olive affirms that this desire for naturalization is not the majority among foreigners. “It’s not a majority, obviously. But today we still have foreigners who do not wish to be naturalized French. Since they do not wish to be naturalized French, I do not see why we would allow them to be able to have access to vote”. Karl Olive is therefore “totally unfavorable” to Sacha Houlié’s proposal because “we do not buy a vote with a tax”.
But, according to him, this proposal still has “the merit of being asked”. And, “it will be discussed, there will be a working group which will be done at the initiative of the president of the Renaissance group and we will see what happens next”, he concludes.
