Riley Keough, granddaughter of Elvis Presley, will never forget the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival for two reasons.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival, which started on May 17 and will last until May 28, is doubly special for actress and director Riley Keough (32). On Saturday (May 22) her directorial debut, the drama “War Pony” about two young indigenous men growing up on the US reservation Pine Ridge (South Dakota) celebrated its world premiere there. And in just three days, the next highlight for the 32-year-old is on the Côte d’Azur.

Because Keough is the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley (54) – and therefore the granddaughter of the King of Rock’n’Roll, Elvis Presley (1935-1977). Director Baz Luhrmann (59) built a cinematic monument to him with his biopic “Elvis”, which lasted around three hours. Next Wednesday (May 25) the strip, in which Austin Butler (30) mimes the young star with the scandalous hip swing, will also celebrate its world premiere in Cannes.

A “lucky coincidence”

According to festival director Thierry Frémaux (61), the fact that this constellation came about at the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival was a “lucky coincidence”. as quoted by “People”.. Keough is at a loss for words in the face of this coincidence. She had already had the honor of seeing the film with her mother and grandmother Priscilla Presley (76), as “Variety” reports. All three women broke down in tears during the film, Keough said. “It was a highly emotional experience. It’s very intense to watch when it’s your own family.

She was also “in shock” because of the honor of being able to present her own film in Cannes. “We’re just grateful to be here.” She shot “War Pony” together with Gina Gammel, for whom the film is also her premiere as a director. It is not yet known whether and if so when the film will be released in German cinemas. In complete contrast to “Elvis”, which will be shown in Germany from June 23rd.
