(CercleFinance.com) – Rio Tinto will invest 35 million Canadian dollars in its Arvida plant located in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The group will build a new aluminum recycling center to expand its offer of low-carbon aluminum solutions. This product is intended for customers in the automotive, packaging and construction markets.
Rio Tinto will become the first primary aluminum producer in North America to integrate recycled post-consumer aluminum into aluminum alloys.
The recycling center is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2024 and will have an initial capacity of 30,000 tons per year.
Rio Tinto Aluminium’s Executive Director of Atlantic Operations, Sébastien Ross, said: ‘Investing in the fitting out of new recycling facilities at Arvida is another step in our strategy to expand our low aluminum product offering. carbon and integrating the circular economy into our value chain.
