Rio Tinto: supply agreement with H2 Green Steel


(CercleFinance.com) – Rio Tinto announces a multi-year supply agreement with H2 Green Steel, an industrial startup establishing large-scale production of green steel, for direct reduction iron ore pellets from the operations of the Mining company IOC (Iron Ore Company of Canada) of Rio Tinto.

These pellets will be a significant part of the iron ore supply to H2 Green Steel’s flagship plant in Boden, Sweden, which will be one of the first large-scale producers of low-grade iron and steel. carbon.

In addition, Rio Tinto is also expected to purchase and resell some of the surplus hot briquetted low carbon iron (HBI) produced by H2 Green Steel as it ramps up its steel production capacity.

The fully integrated, digitized and circular plant is expected to start operations in 2025, turning direct reduction pellets into HBIs and then making steel via electric arc furnaces using green hydrogen.
