(CercleFinance.com) – Rio Tinto and Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation (YEC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore collaboration opportunities on renewable energy projects in the Pilbara region (Western Australia).
Rio Tinto and YEC will study and evaluate a range of opportunities, including wind and solar power as well as battery energy storage systems.
The initial objective is to rapidly explore the potential development of a solar power generation facility for Rio Tinto’s energy supply.
The company is currently evaluating the development of approximately 300 MW of solar projects.
Collaboration opportunities currently being explored by Rio Tinto and YEC, if realized, would be complementary to renewable energy developments on Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s electricity network.
