Rivian is said to be developing a new model in the form of an electric 4×4 with more than 1,200 horsepower. Called R1X, it should arrive on the market at the end of 2023.
Founded in 2009 as Mainstream Motors and officially becoming a car manufacturer in 2021 with the launch of its very first model, Rivian (a contraction of Indian River) now has no less than two electric models in its range.
It is a pick-up, called R1T and presented in 2018 before being launched in 2020 and a more classic SUV, bearing the name of R1S. The latter is a seven-seater family-oriented vehicle, first unveiled in 2018 in the form of a concept before being marketed in 2021. But as you can imagine, the American brand does not intend to stop there. right path.
A new 4X4 to come
If the manufacturer, which announced in 2021 to have raised no less than 2.5 billion dollars thanks to the participation of Ford and Amazon, is going through a bad patch after having laid off some of its employees, it does not however put its plans for side. Indeed, it plans to launch a new model in the near future, as announced MotorTrend. The latter have indeed managed to obtain some information about this future vehicle, which this time would take the form of a large all-terrain, fruit of the love of a Jeep Wrangler, a Land Rover Defender and a Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
This is how the future Rivian R1X is described by journalists, while the latter have already imagined what it could look like. And the least we can say is that he is rather attractive. It should indeed be inspired by the world of rallying and promises to be as effective on muddy paths as on the road. Regarding the dimensions, the length would be slightly less than that of the R1S, which measures 5.04 meters as a reminder. According to the first spyshotsit should adopt a sloped roof, giving it a very fashionable coupe SUV silhouette.

For now, information about this future electric fighter is still rare. But always according to MotorTrend, it should be based on a shortened version of the platform used for the R1S, while being equipped with completely new motors and batteries. These will also equip the next generations of the R1T and R1S, expected for 2024. Under the hood of the 4X4, no less than four engines would be installed, for a theoretical total power of 1,200 horsepower for 1,625 Nm of torque.. Battery capacity as well as range and performance have yet to be announced.
According to MotorTrendthe Rivian R1X should see the light of day by the end of next year. It should then be displayed at a starting price of around 115,000 dollars, or around 113,000 euros. according to the current exchange rate.
