  • The Federal Council wants to expand the A1 motorway to at least six lanes on the Bern-Zurich and Lausanne-Geneva sections.
  • He recommends a corresponding motion from the National Council for acceptance without comment, as was announced on Thursday.
  • The violation comes from Erich Hess (SVP/BE) and was co-signed by 31 of his parliamentary group colleagues.

The National Council will decide on this as the first council. Hess justified his motion with the fact that the volume of traffic on the 410-kilometer-long A1 is now much greater than it used to be. The Autobahn is one of the “chronically congested routes in the country”.

Usage will continue to increase in the near future. Some sections such as between Härkingen SO and Wiggertal LU have already been expanded to six lanes. Another stage between Härkingen and Luterbach SO is being planned. Now Motionär Hess wants the Federal Council to force the general expansion of the A1 to six lanes.
