Roblox better than metaverse? The huge video game box lands on Meta’s VR headsets

While waiting for a hypothetical functional version of the metaverse, the Meta Quest will be used for a game that has proven itself.

A statement from Mark Zuckerberg, followed by a post on the official blog of Roblox, announced: the game creation platform will soon be available on virtual reality headsets developed by Meta. A hell of a prize for Meta, given the impressive success of Robloxand enough to prepare the ground for the Quest 3.

Following the announcement of the CEO of Meta, the developers of Roblox have split a long article on their blog to detail the arrival of the immensely popular platform in the world of VR. The beta version, which will therefore be available in the coming weeks, will only be compatible with the Quest 2 and the Quest Pro, leaving owners of earlier models on the floor.

But if this new medium, after computers, Xbox, smartphones and tablets, should make it possible to further grow the user base (Roblox claims 160 million per month), it is Meta who could have the most to gain in this arrival. Existing content on Roblox should be immediately available in VR, regardless of the original medium of creation, sometimes subject to a few menu adjustments on the part of their creators. It will also be quite possible to exchange between users of different devices.

In other words, 15 million games, virtual worlds and other exchange spaces are arriving on Meta VR headsets, and VR will probably inspire others. Enough to maintain the hype while waiting for Mark Zuckerberg’s company to develop a product that makes you want.

And the Quest 3, then?

If the announcement does not mention models prior to the Quest 2, the Quest 3 is also the main absent from this announcement. This is probably explained by its release date, scheduled for next fall. If the beta of Roblox is a success, there is no doubt that its official release will be part of Meta’s communication plan. It seems unlikely, given the communication around this next release, that it will simply be put aside.

Finally, remember that what was until recently Meta’s flagship virtual reality product, the metaverse, no longer excites many people, including its most fervent advocate a few months ago, Mark Zuckerberg.
