Roche: trial halted following positive results

(CercleFinance.com) – Roche announced Wednesday the end of a clinical study devoted to a new treatment against acute heart failure after it had established its effectiveness.

The Swiss pharmaceutical group specifies that the ‘Strong-HF’ trial was stopped prematurely after demonstrating ‘superior efficacy’ compared to the existing standard treatment.

The study, which had recruited 1078 participants at the time of its termination, indeed resulted in a “significant” reduction in deaths and relapses after 180 days of observation.

The trial was based in particular on ‘Elecsys NT-proBNP’, its test for measuring cardiac markers.

These announcements allowed the title Roche to float Wednesday on the Zurich Stock Exchange, posting a gain of 0.8% against a decline of 0.1% for the SMI index.
