To everyone’s surprise, Rockstar Games has just confirmed that the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series is currently in development. Could this be GTA 6?
As players prepare for the release of Grand Theft Auto 5’s next-gen update, Rockstar Games surprised everyone by officially announcing on February 6 that “the active development of the next installment of the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.”
And if this announcement had the effect of a bomb on social networks, caution is in order since at no time did Rockstar mention “GTA 6”.
So what’s brewing? Everything we know so far.
Fans hope that this announcement from Rockstar is indeed about GTA 6 and not another project.
The Next GTA Episode “Is On Track”
In an official statement, Rockstar said: “We are happy to confirm that the active development of the next installment of the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We can’t wait to tell you more when we’re ready, so stay tuned to Rockstar Newswire for official details.”
At this time, no images or videos have been shared by Rockstar following this announcement.
And while for many fans this announcement all seems to point to GTA 6, skepticism is in order for many others.

The official Rockstar Games account also released a statement about Twitterstating:With each new project, our goal is always to go significantly beyond what we have delivered previously.”
In the absence of an official release date, or timeline, Jason Schreierindustry expert, predicts that the reveal will take place later in 2022, with a possible launch two years later.
He stated : “I wouldn’t be shocked to see Grand Theft Auto VI announced later this year with a fake release date like “Fall 2023” which then slides to 2024.”

As a reminder, the development of GTA 5 was formalized on November 3, 2011 for release almost two years later, on September 17, 2013.
In the end, whether it’s GTA 6 or anything else, you’re going to have to exercise a little more patience before you discover more.
