Rockstar officially confirms: The next Grand Theft Auto is in development

Rockstar Games has confirmed that the sequel to the open world game Grand Theft Auto 5 is in development. Specifically, the developers say:
“Given GTAV’s unparalleled longevity, we know many of you have been asking us about a new installment in the Grand Theft Auto series. With any new project we undertake, our goal is always to go well beyond what we’ve delivered so far – and we’re delighted to confirm that active development is well underway for the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series. We look forward to revealing more when we’re ready, ie please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.”
This is the first time Rockstar Games has confirmed that a new part of the immensely successful Grand Theft Auto series is actually being worked on. Whether the title has “GTA VI” in its name remains to be seen, but it would be surprising if it weren’t. After all, GTA V is one of the most successful video games ever with over 155 million units sold and sales of over 6 billion US dollars. The console version of GTA V was released in September 2013, the PC version in April 2015.

GTA V will receive the current-gen patch on March 15th
In the same blog post, Rockstar Games announces that the current-gen patch for GTA V and GTA Online for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S will be released on March 15, 2022. This means that the game, which is now almost ten years old, has received a general technical overhaul. In addition to new high-resolution textures, 4K resolution at up to 60 frames per second, faster loading times, HDR, an increased view distance, 3D audio, ray-tracing effects and much more are also being added to the game. Previous scores can be transferred.
There will also be a new standalone version of GTA Online for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on March 15th. This version will be available free of charge for Playstation 5 players for the first three months.
