Rod Stewart had a surprise in store at the end of the tour in Edinburgh: his 94-year-old sister supported him on stage.

What a great gesture from rock legend Rod Stewart (78). As reported by the British “Mirror”, among others, there was a very special background singer on stage at his final concert of the current UK tour: his 94-year-old sister Mary. After his performance, Stewart told the newspaper that it was a special pleasure for him to be in the Scottish city of Edinburgh with his big sister. His sister also loved “still being on a rock’n’roll stage at the age of 94”.

“She has and will continue to teach me about life,” Stewart said of his sister. Mary, who was asked into the limelight by her brother for Rod Stewart’s mega-hit “Sailing”, wrapped in a Scottish flag, beamed all over her face in her brother’s arms. He then asked her to join the other singers to sing along. The two closing dates at Edinburgh’s famous Castle were the culmination of Rod Stewart’s sold-out tour of his native UK. Although born near London, Stewart himself is the child of Scottish immigrants and has never hidden his family origins in his decades-long career. Among other things, he is considered a noble fan of the Scottish football club Celtic Glasgow.

Rod Stewart had a total of four siblings – only Mary is alive

Rod Stewart is the youngest of five children born to Elsie and Robert. His siblings were all born in Scotland. His older brothers, Bob and Don, both passed away last year, aged 88 and 94, respectively. Stewart himself said of the death of his family in November 2022: “I’ve lost two of my best friends in the last two months.” His second sister Peggy died in 1975 at the age of only 40 as a result of multiple sclerosis.
