Rodion Amirov: ice hockey player died at the age of 21 from brain tumor

The sports world mourns the loss of Russian ice hockey player Rodion Amirov (2001 – 2023), who died yesterday, August 14, of a brain tumor. The promising newcomer only landed a three-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in April 2021 and then moved to Canada. In February 2022, his new club had to deliver the sad news that Amirov had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and was being treated for it.

Manager Milstein makes public Amirov’s death

Now his manager Daniel Milstein did on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) announced that the young talent had succumbed to his illness. There he wrote: “It is with great regret that we have to announce that Rodion Amirov has passed away. Two years ago, Rodion was diagnosed with a brain tumor. From the moment he received the news, he refused to speak negatively and was determined to enjoy each day and approach it with the same positive attitude that he displayed throughout his hockey career.”

Thanks to the Toronto Maple Leafs

In his post, Milstein thanked Airov’s Toronto Maple Leafs for their support during difficult times and the late player’s doctors for taking great care of him.

Rodion Amirov started his professional career in 2017 with the junior ice hockey team Tolpar Ufa and then switched to the former Russian champion Salavat Yulaev Ufa. With the jump to Canada in 2021, he hoped for a long and successful further one career, which unfortunately was not to be granted to him.
