Will 2024 mark the release of a new version of the portable console ASUS ROG Ally? The brand seems to be thinking about it seriously.
Following in the footsteps of Valve and its Steam Deck, ASUS was the first “major manufacturer” to market its own portable games console, the famous ROG Ally.
Available in two versions – depending on the onboard processor – the machine has recently been given a “2023” suffix on the product page of the official site. A clue ?
Iteration of models like on laptops
Launched in June 2023, the ROG Ally is indeed a 2023 machine. No doubt about it, but the addition of the suffix is of some importance for those who are used to the brand’s nomenclature.
Indeed, on its ranges of laptop PCs, ASUS has the habit of adding the suffix of the year to identify the models. In fact, each new year sees its share of new products and the change in name of the ROG Ally is widely seen as an indicator of the release of a new version.
So would ASUS have the idea of marketing a new portable console barely a year after the release of the ROG Ally? Would the brand take the opposite approach to Valve at this level?
OLED screen? New APU?
Let us actually remember that Valve has already explained on numerous occasions that it wants “ a significant increase in performance » before studying the question of a Steam Deck 2 console.
This did not prevent Valve from marketing a revamped version of the Steam Deck with this version equipped with an OLED screen. It incorporates a slightly lower version of the main processor and has a larger battery capacity. Would ASUS consider making similar changes? The brand could already look into the small defects linked to the SD card reader.
We are currently reduced to speculation, but we can bet that with Computex 2024 which will be held at the beginning of June in Taipei, we will be sure.
