ROG Ally: a list of major updates to accompany the release of the Windows portable console from ASUS

There ROG Ally will be available tomorrow, June 13, 2023, and the good news is that many improvements and adjustments have been made before it is released. Basically, upon receipt, you should not forget to go through the update box of Windows Update or, better and faster, MyASUS to enjoy the best of your new portable Windows console.

List of June updates

  • ACSE v1.2.10 (June 12, 2023)
    – New feature: Extreme Modern Standby extends device standby time by disabling some non-essential features in sleep mode;
    – Improved user experience: improved translation for Armory Crate and added Indonesian;
    – Improved user experience: optimized mouse cursor position when switching between control modes;
    – Improved user experience: optimized the thumbnail selection process for new titles in the game library;
    – Bug Fix: Fixed the occasional issue where the mouse cursor did not select the correct item in some programs.
  • BIOS 319 via MyASUS (June 9, 2023) or Windows Update (June 23, 2023)
    – TDP silent mode changed from 9 watts to 10 watts;
    – Added support for Extreme Modern Standby.
  • MCU 308 (June 9, 2023)
    – Added support for Extreme Modern Standby.

With his arrival from ROG Ally in homes, ASUS will certainly further develop its system and especially its Armory Crate launcher which, if already very effective, can still be improved.

As a reminder, here are all the updates that were made before the launch:

BIOS 317:

  • Added support for Modern Standby Assistant (see below).
  • Added user-configurable GPU memory support (see below).

  • Improved User Experience: Improved the order of Aura Sync light patterns in the Command Center toggle.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed an issue where after switching from Manual Mode to another mode, the Command Center would still show that Manual Mode was active.


ACSE v1.2.4

  • New feature: Modern Standby Assistant allows the system to enter hibernation to save battery.
  • New Feature: Users can now manually adjust the amount of memory allocated to the GPU in Armory Crate, from 1 GB to 8 GB.
  • New Feature: User can now disable the built-in controller to allow external gamepads.
  • New Feature: Users can now create custom keybindings in the control mode configuration.
  • New Feature: Added “Xbox” button as an option for button mapping actions.
  • New Feature: Added a “Return to Desktop” function in the Command Center.
  • New Feature: Added a volume adjustment slider in the Command Center.
  • New Feature: Added shutdown button in Command Center.
  • New Feature: Added option in Media Gallery to open media directory in File Explorer.
  • Improved user experience: added an exit icon in the navigation bar.
  • Improved user experience: the notification for running multiple programs has been updated with a new language.
  • Improved user experience: Improved animation for joystick range adjustment and improved cursor behavior for joystick/trigger/vibration adjustment.
  • Improved user experience: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi have now been merged into a single “Connection” option.
  • Improved user experience: Users will now receive an error pop-up if insufficient storage space is detected while capturing screenshot or recording video.
  • Improved user experience: When an external display is connected, Windows will automatically switch to “Show only second display” by default.
  • Improved user experience: Added TDP information to Operation Mode icons in the Command Center.
  • Improved user experience: Added support for Danish, Polish, Romanian and Thai languages.
  • Improved User Experience: Added an XG Mobile tray icon to the Windows taskbar for quick switching when eGPU is detected.
  • Improved User Experience: Added Base Frequency, ROG Boost, and ROG Boost OC metrics for NVIDIA XG Mobile GPUs.
  • Bug Fix: Improved overall stability of Armory Crate SE.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed an issue where screenshots and recorded videos were not appearing in the media library.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed an issue where the left button would not open the storage file path in the media gallery.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed an issue where ROG Ally was not properly using XG Mobile (GC31/GC33).
  • Bug Fix: Fixed an issue where audio settings did not appear and updated ASUS Framework from v4.0.0.4 to v4.0.0.5.
