Rolls-Royce: an agreement with Pratt & Whitney and Virginia Tech

(CercleFinance.com) – Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney have signed a joint agreement with Virginia Tech for research focused on the impact of environmental contaminants on the operation and testing of aircraft engines.

The four-year project will leverage Virginia Tech’s interdisciplinary research and expertise in engine operations, instrumentation, and geosciences, as well as research relationships that Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce maintain with the university.

“This joint research project will help the industry better understand airborne particles and their impact on operability,” adds Lisa Teague, head of emerging technologies and innovation at Rolls-Royce LibertyWorks.

The short-term objective is to use the lessons learned from the small engine tests, which will be carried out on a Rolls-Royce M250 engine, to influence the large engine test programmes.
