Prince William, Duchess Kate and the rest of the Royal Family skip this year's Christmas service. You play it safe.

The traditional Christmas service on December 25th in Sandringham will take place without the Royal Family this year. According to the British Daily Mail, the Norfolk Police published a statement on Wednesday (23 December) saying that "members of the royal family will not attend the usual Christmas service".

With the announcement, the aim is to prevent too many people from gathering in front of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Corona times to catch a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth II (94) and her family.

Break with tradition

It is the first time in 32 years that the Royal Family does not attend the annual Christmas service. She has traditionally been spending the holidays in Sandringham since 1988, and in 2020 the pandemic will force new plans. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip (99) are spending Christmas at Windsor Castle, while Prince William (38) and Duchess Kate (38) and their three children are staying at their country estate, Anm Hall in Norfolk. Harry (36) and Meghan (39) celebrate with their son Archie (1) in their adopted home USA.
