The national team proudly dresses in NFL jerseys

After the first training session in the USA, Thomas Müller and colleagues can look forward to a special gift and a meeting with a former German NFL professional. RTL expert Markus Kuhn wishes the DFB team a good time. The players think it’s really cool.

Thomas Müller strutted towards the team bus in his football jersey with his number 13, which he wears in the DFB team. Goal scorer Niclas Füllkrug also put on the dark blue jersey of the New England Patriots with his name and the number 9 on it. In addition, national coach Julian Nagelsmann and DFB sports director Rudi Völler also received a personalized shirt after the national soccer team’s first training session in the USA.

Former German NFL professional Markus Kuhn handed over the first jersey to captain İlkay Gündoğan on the pitch at the end of the training session on Tuesday evening (local time) in Foxborough at the training ground of the New England Revolution from Major League Soccer. The former German NFL professional also said a few words to the DFB team. There was applause for that.

“It’s a different world”

“It was nice that I was able to speak to the boys from the national team. I hope that they have a good time here,” said the 37-year-old Kuhn. In 2014, the Mannheim native was the first German player to score a touchdown in the National Football League (NFL). In 2015, today’s RTL football expert moved to the Patriots, but did not make it into the squad of the now six-time Super Bowl winner, who is currently experiencing a deep sporting crisis.

The much-criticized trip to the USA provided the DFB professionals with interesting moments. “It was cool that we got the jerseys and that we could immerse ourselves in this world a little. It’s a different world,” said Leverkusen’s Jonas Hofmann.

Gündoğan thanked Kuhn for the Patriots’ gift and then revealed that he personally has a certain “affinity” for American football. He always watches NFL games on TV and “always tries to watch the Superbowl.” The goalkeepers Kevin Trapp and Oliver Baumann had a long chat with Kuhn, who ended his football career in 2017.
