RTL has an emergency plan
Despite the discovery of the bomb, the TV shows continue to run
The RTL broadcasting center in Cologne was evacuated due to a bomb being found. The station has developed an emergency plan.
The lunchtime magazine “Point 12” is particularly affected. At the beginning, the three-hour live broadcast was filmed in the studio with presenter Roberta Bieling (49) and all employees, but in the middle everyone had to leave the building. RTL itself reports on the events.
“We want to be there for our audience”
But there is apparently a good alternative plan for this: “Even in such a difficult situation, we want to be there for our audience. That’s why we’re moving our studio outside and will be from outside the evacuation zone ‘Point 12’ and possibly also the later current ones RTL programs, ‘Explosiv’ and ‘Exclusiv’, as well as ntv will continue to broadcast live,” the spokeswoman told spot on news.
If operations are still not possible in the broadcast center by 6:45 p.m., “RTL Aktuell” will be broadcast live with Jan Hofer from Berlin. “In addition, from 2 p.m. the Berlin studio will also take over the direction of all our programs.” In addition, the replacement broadcast processing in Cologne-Ossendorf is currently being ramped up.
As the city of Cologne announced, the bomb was found during dredging work in the Rhine in the area of the Kennedy bank. It is said to be an American ten hundredweight bomb. The Düsseldorf district government’s explosive ordnance disposal service and the Cologne city public order office have been working since the morning to defuse the unexploded bomb. It is not yet clear when this will be completed.
There are other companies within the 500 meter evacuation radius, such as the insurance company HDI and the headquarters of the European Aviation Safety Agency. In addition, shipping and rail traffic across the Hohenzollern Bridge had to be stopped. Residents, however, are hardly affected.
