For several years, THE ray tracing is omnipresent in video games AAA, technology makes it possible to improve light management and therefore offer ever more realistic graphics. In addition to new games that benefit from this technology, some old titles are also entitled to a little facelift.
So far, few old games have taken advantage of this technology, but everything will change with NVIDIA RTX Remixa tool for modders which enters open beta this week. Anyone can therefore remaster old titles and modernize them with the RTXTHE DLSS And Reflexthe main technologies of NVIDIA. The graphics card manufacturer explains it all to us:
- RTX Remix changes the modding game
With NVIDIA RTX Remix, NVIDIA allows modders to remaster their favorite classic games with full ray tracing (also known as path tracing), NVIDIA DLSS, NVIDIA Reflex, modern physics-based rendering (PBR) and generative AI texture tools.
NVIDIA RTX Remix, based on NVIDIA Omniverse, is an end-to-end platform for remastering DirectX 8 and 9 games with fixed feature pipelines. The latest compatible games are available on the community compatibility list on ModDB.

Remix consists of two elements: an application for creating lights and adding remastered elements into a game scene, and a runtime for capturing classic game scenes, and injecting the remastered elements into the game during playback.
From now on, all modders can download the new NVIDIA RTX Remix open beta for free from here to experiment, create, and leave feedback to improve the experience as it gets closer to the full release.

NVIDIA specifies that RTX Remix has already enabled the development of remastered games like Portal with RTX, Orbifold Studios currently working on Half-Life 2 RTX: An RTX Remix Project, let’s still hope that other games outside of Valve’s library are entitled to the same treatment.
