(Reuters) – Former Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales has been suspended for three years from all football-related activities by Fifa’s disciplinary committee after kissing Spanish player Jenni Hermoso without her consent, it was announced on Monday the governing body of world football.

“This case concerns the events that took place during the Women’s World Cup final on August 20, 2023, for which Mr. Rubiales was provisionally suspended for an initial period of 90 days,” Fifa said.

Luis Rubiales was at the center of a scandal in August after he kissed Jenni Hermoso, captain of the Spanish team, without consent after the Women’s World Cup final which saw Spain win the world title.

The Spanish public prosecutor’s office also filed a complaint for sexual assault and coercion against the former president of the Spanish Federation, who initially refused to resign.
