Rude awakening – While the victim was sleeping: Thieves’ coup on the night train

Shock for a young Carinthian who traveled by train from Zurich to Villach at night! Without realizing it, the 25-year-old became a victim.

A rude awakening for a 25-year-old from the Klagenfurt district: Florian (name changed by the editors) traveled to Switzerland by train on Tuesday for a job interview in Zurich. At 7:50 p.m. we went back on the night train. “Thankfully, because of the time, I had a six-passenger compartment to myself. So around 11 p.m. I lay down across three seats and slept.” The young Carinthian placed his backpack next to his head “as a precaution” and ready to hand. Criminal took on the role of conductor “Sometime between two and four o’clock I suddenly woke up, and A man dressed in black stood in the doorway. He asked me if I wanted something to drink – to which I said no, half asleep, and lay back down. “I assumed it was a conductor,” Florian tells “Krone”. It was only after he arrived in Villach that he realized that a criminal was actually standing in front of him. “When I got out, I thought to myself that my backpack was somehow so light. Then I looked inside – and my laptop, iPad, headphones and around 50 euros in cash were missing. I then got on the train again – but I didn’t leave anything behind or lose anything.” The shocked victim then immediately filed a report at the nearest police station. Total value of the loot: around 3,000 euros. “Unacceptable reaction” “I also reported this to the ÖBB so that they at least know about it. With a very disappointing, unempathetic reaction: It just said that it was my own fault and that I should have booked a private compartment.” In response to a “Krone” request, ÖBB spokesman Herbert Hofer regrets the criminal incident and apologizes for the behavior of its own customer service . “Such a reaction is unacceptable!”
