Rufus is a free utility for Windows that allows you to create a bootable version of Windows from a USB key. Its version is now available and will be of particular interest to IT professionals wishing to install Windows 11 on computers that do not have a TPM chip.
Rufus, the utility for Windows that allows you to create bootable USB keys, is entering beta. Testers can take advantage of new features more in line with the requirements of recent operating systems such as Windows 10. Bad news for older OSes, however: Windows 7 and earlier versions are no longer supported.
Rufus is a program well known to computer technicians and other enlightened amateurs. This free software makes it very easy to create “bootable” media, the very ones that are used to reinstall Windows or even Linux. In a few words, Rufus transfers image file in ISO format of an operating system to a USB flash drive (most of the time). Simply select this medium as your startup disk when you restart your computer to enjoy a portable version of Windows.

Rufus 3.22 beta is intended only for experienced users. To take advantage of its new features, you must compile the code made available on Github. Once this is done, it will be possible to deactivate Bitlocker encryption, the function that secures all data on a hard drive in Windows, from the program interface.
This feature is in addition to other options such as removing the requirement for 4 GB of RAM, Secure Boot, a TPM chip or even having an online Microsoft account. In this way, it is possible to create a portable version of Windows 11, compatible with computers that do not meet the hardware requirements officially required to use the latest OS from Microsoft. In addition, Rufus now supports hardware acceleration of SHA-1 and SHA-256 cryptographic functions. It unfortunately drops support for Windows 7, which still powers just over 5% of PCs worldwidealthough it was released fourteen years ago.
