RUMOR: PS5, a console with a removable disk drive in preparation at Sony

Tom Henderson, insider well known to players, has just launched its site Insider Gamingand it starts strong with a big rumor about sony and his PlayStation 5. According to its sources, the Japanese manufacturer would prepare a PS5 with a removable disk drive, which would become the only model on the market.

Concretely, this PlayStation 5 would be based on a new chassis and would be sold alone, without a disc drive, or in bundle with this removable drive. The idea would be to replace the current PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition, with different chassis, in order to reduce production costs (and why not the selling price, which has increased recently). The disc player, which would connect via USB-C to the PlayStation 5, would also be offered for purchase alone, if ever the player opts for a model without player, but changes his mind after a few months. And above all, if the drive fails, it is only he who would go for repair, not the entire console. Incidentally, this would allow sony to suggest a slightly thinner and lighter PS5.

As a reminder, sony has already sold over 21.7 million PlayStation 5s since launch, despite ongoing inventory issues. According Insider Gaming, this new PS5 with its removable disk drive would arrive in September 2023, as much to say that the Japanese manufacturer has all the time in front of him before formalizing this rumor. Alternatively, you can attempt to get the current PS5 at €549.99 on Amazon.
