MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Wednesday accused International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach of discrediting international sport and violating the principles of the Olympic movement.

During a briefing with journalists, Maria Zakharova also repeated her call for an investigation into Thomas Bach’s actions.

Thomas Bach was the victim of a hoax by two Russian comedians, published Tuesday, in which he said the IOC had created a committee to monitor the media and the internet and ensure that Russian athletes who made political statements in favor of their government cannot participate in the Olympic Games.

He also said the IOC had asked Ukraine to provide information on Russian athletes and officials. Which, according to Maria Zakharova, is part of a “conspiracy”.
