It is a weekend that will have deeply shaken Russia. Faced with a more than unjustified Ukrainian conflict for their leader, this Saturday, the paramilitary group Wagner showed its determination to march to Moscow, before finally turning back at the end of the evening. A decision taken by Evguéni Prigojine, the leader of the armed group, who wanted to “avoid a bloodbath” on Russian soil.
“Putin is humiliated by himself”
Guest of Europe 1 morning this Monday, MoDem MP Jean-Louis Bourlanges believes “that Vladimir Putin’s days are relatively numbered”. “The Russians are a proud people and the humiliation which has been suffered not only last Saturday, but in general since the outbreak of the war, cannot be without consequences forever”, he continues.
“The question of humiliation which had been asked several times, in particular by Emmanuel Macron” resurfaces, continues the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the National Assembly. “We must not humiliate Putin”, had declared in particular the French president in June 2022. A declaration which had aroused strong reactions in France, but also in Europe. “I believe that Putin is humiliated by himself. He is humiliated by Segueï Choigou, his defense minister, he is humiliated by the failure of his army”.
Towards a popular revolution?
So, after this attempted mutiny, will Putin be overthrown by the population or by external forces? “I believe that everyone wants, if only out of friendship for the Russian people, that the regime be different. Currently, it is a violent kleptocracy. But those who think that we are going with either good feelings or weapons, arriving in Russia and dictating another destiny to the Russian people, they are really reckless. Everything the Americans have tried to do this in all latitudes for 50 years, despite their power, has always failed”, underlines Jean-Louis Bourlanges.
“We are in a world where the destiny of the Russians belongs to the Russians. But we must indeed wish that they evolve”, concludes the deputy MoDem.
