Russia says it shot down 13 Ukrainian drones near Crimea and Moscow

  • The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed early Thursday August 10 that it shot down 13 drones, including 11 near Crimea and 2 heading towards Moscowafter several similar attacks in recent days. “Near the city of Sevastopol [dans la péninsule annexée de Crimée]two drones were hit by in-service air defense devices, nine others were neutralized by electronic warfare means and crashed into the Black Sea before reaching the target”the ministry added.
  • Russia had already announced on Wednesday that it had shot down two Ukrainian drones heading towards Moscow, a type of attack that has multiplied in recent weeks. The attack caused no casualties or damage, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
  • Two people were killed and seven others injured in a Russian strike on Zaporizhia on Wednesdayin southern Ukraine, announced on Telegram Interior Minister Igor Klymenko. A previous death toll of three was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky on Telegram. The Ukrainian head of state released a video showing a damaged church, with flames and smoke in its courtyard, as well as another building on fire. “The enemy attacked a residential area”said Anatoly Kourtiev, head of the Zaporijia city council.
  • An explosion in a hangar of the optical-mechanical plant in the Russian city Zagorsk (which changed its name in 1991, to take that of Sergiev Posad), left one dead and fifty injuredsix of them seriously. The accident does not appear to be related to the conflict in Ukraine, regional authorities said.
  • A civilian was killed and four others were injured in a Ukrainian shelling that hit the Russian village of Gorkovsky, near the Ukrainian borderannounced on Wednesday on Telegram Governor of Belgorod Oblast Vyacheslav Gladkov. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was pleased at the end of July that “war is coming to the territory of Russia”.
  • On the front in Ukraine, both Russian and Ukrainian shelling continued on Wednesday. On the Ukrainian side, Russian strikes left one dead in Nikopol and one injured in the southern Kherson oblast, according to local authorities. Ukrainian bombardments on Donetsk, in the east, left three dead and eleven wounded, according to the occupation authorities.
  • Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has promised Westerners a “quick and adequate response” in front of the “multiplication” of the “threats to military security” at the Russian borders. Among these threats mentioned by Mr Choigou, the “indirect war” delivered against Russia through a “unprecedented support” to Ukraine, but also the accession of Finland and that of Sweden to come to NATO, or even the “militarization of Poland”.
