Russia to deploy tactical nukes to Belarus in July, Putin says

June 9 (Reuters) – Russia will start deploying tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus as soon as the facilities are ready on July 7-8, Vladimir Putin told his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, at a meeting in Sochi.

“So everything is according to plan, everything is stable,” said the Russian president, according to a statement from the Kremlin.

The pair had previously agreed to deploy Russian short-range land-based nuclear missiles to the territory of close ally Moscow, where they will remain under Russian command. (Reuters report; French version Kate Entringer, edited by Jean-Stéphane Brosse)
