Death toll from Russian strikes in Ukraine rises to 39

Ukraine continued to count its dead on Saturday after intense attacks carried out the day before by Russia on several of its cities, including the capital. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday Telegramthat 39 civilians died and 159 civilians injured.

The authorities announced on Friday a toll of 30 dead and more than 160 injured, according to AFP, but bodies continue to be pulled out of the rubble in kyiv. The local administration announced in the morning that at least 16 people had been killed the day before in the capital, where deadly strikes had become rarer in recent months.

The wave of strikes, one of the most violent since the start of the war almost two years ago, targeted buildings, a maternity ward and even a shopping center but also industrial and military infrastructure.
