Sad news from the USA: “Love Story” lead actor Ryan O’Neal has died at the age of 82. His son said this.

Ryan O’Neal, the legendary star of numerous ’70s romances such as “Love Story” and “Paper Moon,” passed away on December 8th. He was 82 years old. He will remain unforgettable for his film classics, but also for his headline-grabbing personal life.

Ryan O’Neal: His son honors him as a Hollywood legend

His son Patrick O’Neal, 56, announced the sad news in an Instagram tribute on Friday. He posted several pictures of sunsets and wrote: “My father passed away peacefully today with his loving team by his side supporting him.” He paid tribute to his father as a “Hollywood legend” and his “hero.” He continued: “I looked up to him and he was always larger than life.”

The romantic hero was his signature role

O’Neal was born on April 20, 1941 in Los Angeles to screenwriter Charles O’Neal and actress Patricia. In 1964 he had his breakthrough in the soap opera “Peyton Place”. He then played the lead role in hit films. In 1970, “Love Story” was released, making him world famous and nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor. In 1973 he starred with a teenage daughter, Tatum O’Neal, 60, in “Paper Moon.” He was nominated for the Golden Globes for this leading role. His comedy “Is something, Doc?” with Barbra Streisand, 81, was a huge success.

Ryan O’Neal was considered THE man for romantic roles at the time. And his private life was also interesting for many people. He has been married and divorced twice and has four children. In particular, his turbulent relationship with actress Farrah Fawcett, †62, caused a stir; the two were one of the most dazzling couples in show business. They separated in 1997 after 17 years, but became close again when the beauty icon was diagnosed with cancer. Her death shocked the actor deeply. “I just don’t know how to play it. Without her, I don’t know this world.” In his memoirs, O’Neal wrote that the memory of his time with Fawcett carried him through the toughest times in life. “I feel her sometimes,” he said in an interview after her death. “It’s a nice feeling. It reminds me that I had a life and a love… It happened too fast, that’s all.”

He himself has struggled with a number of health problems in recent years; he was diagnosed with chronic leukemia in 2001 and prostate cancer in 2012. It is not yet known how he died.
