Ryanair: the company stops its flights to and from Brest

Hard blow for Brest airport. The low-cost airline Ryanair has just announced the cessation of all its flights to and from Brest (Finistère), from February 5.

Travelers who purchased a ticket after this date should contact the company.

The Irish Ryanair provided an almost daily Brest-Marseille connection, as well as Brest-Lisbon (Portugal) and Brest-Porto (Portugal).

Rising costs involved

“No particular reason has been given” for stopping these flights, “it is a strategic decision of the company”, specified ABO (Aéroports Bretagne Ouest), the company which manages the airport of Brest-Bretagne. , at France Bleu.

According to our colleagues, Ryanair would not have borne the increase in production costs invoiced by the airport. So they withdrew. Negotiations are underway with other companies to take over the lines.

Ryanair is the first company in Europe in terms of the number of passengers transported. Like most businesses, it has suffered greatly from Covid-19 and travel restrictions. In particular, it lost 815 million euros over the year 2020-2021, and had to part with 3,000 employees at the very start of the health crisis. It operated at Brest-Bretagne airport, located in Guipavas, alongside EasyJet and Airfrance.
