Safari finally surpasses one billion users, but still lags far behind Chrome

According to figures from Atlas VPN, the Safari browser now has more than a billion users, or almost a quarter of all Internet users.

Safari stands out thanks to its many security features, which ensure user privacy. Apple’s browser has managed to cross the bar of one billion regular users. It officially becomes the second browser to have 1 billion users. Numbers are from Atlas VPNwhich is based on GlobalStats readings, in a press release dated May 31, 2022.

Safari crosses a symbolic milestone

According to data from Atlas VPN, Safari shows a total of 1,006,232,879 users, which still represents a quarter of Internet users in the world who use Safari. Unsurprisingly, Google Chrome is in the lead and retains its top spot. The number 1 internet browser for more than 10 years records a total of 3.3 billion users, a figure that is constantly growing.

Unlike Apple with Safari or Microsoft Edge, the Google browser does not benefit from a pre-installation on smartphones, tablets or computers (it is up to the user to download the Chrome browser himself), this which further attests to its success. The Microsoft Edge browser is far behind Safari, with only 212,695,000 users.

By installing its browser by default on its devices, Apple makes sure to win over a large number of users who will not look elsewhere. This is also what drives Google to pay colossal sums each year to Apple to remain Safari’s search engine.
