“Safety concerns” – Swiss-Jet cancels Beirut flight and lands in Vienna

A plane from the Swiss airline Swiss that was supposed to fly to Beirut was diverted on Friday night due to safety concerns. Instead of in the capital of Lebanon, the plane touched down in Vienna in the early hours of the morning.

The Airbus A220-300, which was already over Bosnia-Herzegovina after around an hour of flight, suddenly turns around. Because the situation in the Lebanese capital changed during the flight, as a Swiss spokeswoman reported to the Swiss media: “Our experts have come to the conclusion that the situation in Lebanon is difficult to assess at this point in time and have decided out of caution decided to take this step.”Machine diverted to ViennaAs can be seen on Flightradar24 (see screenshot below), the Airbus initially flew directly back towards Zurich, but then turned northeast over northern Italy and headed for Vienna. The reason: There was no permission to land in Zurich – because the plane would not have arrived there until around midnight. Which is why the flight initially ended in Vienna for the 138 passengers and five crew members. Instead of returning to Zurich, the plane, which had taken off from Zurich at 9:50 p.m. and was actually supposed to touch down in Beirut at around 2:30 a.m. local time, landed with 138 passengers and five crew members in Vienna. Everything is being done to get passengers “back to Zurich as quickly as possible,” said the airline’s spokeswoman. Flightradar24 shows air traffic liveThe Flightradar24 website has specialized in real-time monitoring of global airspace and displays data on all aircraft that are currently in the air. The website receives data about the aircraft from various aviation authorities, airports and, above all, from the ADB-S air traffic control system.
