(Boursier.com) — Saffron Electrical & Power today completed the acquisition of the aeronautical electrical systems business of Thales, which focuses on conversion, power generation and electric motors for civil and military aeronautics. The increase in Safran Electrical & Power’s expertise, particularly in conversion, reinforces its leading position across the entire aircraft electrical chain. This buyout follows exclusive negotiations announced in September 2022.
Thales’ aeronautical electrical systems business employs nearly 600 people and achieved a turnover of €145 million in 2022.

This acquisition includes, in France, the companies Thales Avionics Electrical Systems and Thales Avionics Electrical Motors, located on the sites of Chatou (78), Meru (60), and Conflans-Ste Honorine (78), as well as support activities, maintenance and production for aeronautical electrical equipment located in Orlando (United States) and Singapore.

Activities in France are integrated into Safran Electrical & Power from today. Those based in the United States and Singapore will be absorbed following a transition period which will make it possible to obtain the necessary certification approvals.

“Thanks to these new electrical skills, in particular in conversion, we add a new string to the bow of our portfolio of activities and consolidate the leading position of Safran Electrical & Power throughout the electrical chain. This acquisition will allow us to bring even more relevant and efficient solutions to the market. We look forward to working with the new teams on the decarbonization of aviation through electricity,” declared Stéphane Cueille, President of Safran Electrical & Power.
