Safran: creation of a joint venture with MTU Aero Engines

(CercleFinance.com) – Safran Helicopter Engines and MTU Aero Engines have signed a memorandum of understanding laying the foundations for a 50/50 joint venture. This joint venture will develop a new engine for the ENGRT (European Next Generation Rotorcraft Technologies) helicopter project.

‘The two partners are convinced that the European armed forces need a new 100% European engine, of advanced design and with reduced operating and maintenance costs, to equip a military helicopter which will enter service by 2040’ indicates the group.

“The engine design will be perfectly adaptable to the specifications of future helicopters, while integrating advanced technologies such as hybrid-electric propulsion. This is one of the most important collaborative programs in the history of European defense,” said Cédric Goubet, President of Safran Helicopter Engines.
