(AOF) – As part of the modernization program for the Tiger attack helicopter, Airbus Helicopters has selected Safran Electronics & Defense to supply key equipment involved in the piloting and navigation of aircraft intended for the French and Spanish armies . These products will enable Tiger crews to carry out all of their missions in the most demanding theaters of operation, whatever the conditions.
Ultra-compact, SkyNaute is a hybrid inertial navigation system based on Safran’s disruptive and patented technology, the Crystal HRG (Hemispherical Resonator Gyroscope).
This new architecture allows SkyNaute to display greatly reduced mass and volume characteristics. Combining high integrity and precision, the SkyNaute navigation unit guarantees high levels of performance and reliability, even in the event of the absence or interference of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) signals.
Widely proven, the APIRS heading and attitude unit provides essential data for piloting the helicopter along the three axes: roll, heading and pitch. Based on fiber optic gyroscopes and MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) accelerometers, it combines high reliability, ease of integration and self-calibration in flight.
