(Boursier.com) — Saint-Gobain North America has announced its intention to invest $235 million (approximately €215 million) over the next two years to expand and modernize its CertainTeed gypsum plant (formerly Continental Building Products) in Palatka, Florida.

This investment will double the production capacity of the existing plant and improve its energy consumption.

The Palatka site, which currently employs over 150 people, opened in 2001 and is one of the largest gypsum plants in the southeastern United States. It is strategically located in the heart of one of the most dynamic regions of the country, benefiting from access to natural gypsum.

This new production line will start in the second half of 2025. It will benefit from state-of-the-art automation equipment and technologies to reduce energy consumption. The new dryer should consume about 25% less energy. The new mill will feature a heat recovery system that is approximately 40% more efficient than the existing equipment. These facilities will be among the best in their class in the United States.

This project is part of the continued deployment of the “Grow & Impact” strategy of Saint Gobain, which consists in particular in strengthening the group’s presence in high-growth markets. North America is a leading market for the group with structural needs in terms of light construction and renovation.
