In "Desperado" there was a sex scene between Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek. She connects the shooting of this scene with bitter tears.

When Salma Hayek (54) was cast in the role of tough Carolina in the movie "Desperado" in 1995, this marked the beginning of her remarkable career. Above all, one scene from the ultra-brutal action flick by Robert Rodriguez (52) cost the actress a lot of overcoming – and numerous bitter tears: As Hayek revealed in an interview with Dax Shepard (46) and Monica Padman in their podcast "Armchair Expert", she drove a particularly passionate sex scene with title star Antonio Banderas (60) almost went crazy.

Hayek emphasizes that this was not the fault of Banderas or of filmmaker Rodriguez. However, there was no mention of the night of love between the two protagonists in the script, which completely took them by surprise on set by dropping the covers. The scene was finally shot with only Banderas, Rodriguez and his then wife Elizabeth Avellán present. But: "I just didn't want to let go of the towel," she says. "They tried to make me laugh. I then undressed for two seconds and then started crying again." Every time the camera rolled, "I started to sob," remembers Hayek.

Bandera's professionalism further unsettled her

The composure with which Banderas acted gave the then inexperienced actress the rest: "What I was also afraid of was Antonio. He was an absolute gentleman, incredibly dear and we are still close friends. But he was so open. He scared me that it was such a triviality for him. (…) I was so ashamed that I cried. " She also had to think of her father and brother the whole time during the shoot. "Will they see it? Will they be teased with it? That's not the case with guys. The father would say: 'Yeah! This is my son!'"

In fact, both her brother and father saw the finished film with Hayek at the cinema. At the scene in question, they both preferred to leave the hall and only come back afterwards. By the way, around eight years after "Desperado", Hayek signed on again as Carolina at Banderas' side in the sequel "Sometime in Mexico".
