According to information obtained by Puremédias, Delphine Ernotte, president of France Télévisions, will announce the dissolution of the company this Friday, January 20. It’s a very strange situation in which Salto has found itself for several months. Since last November, the future of the French platform has been on hold, after TF1, M6 and France Télévisions officially announced that they were looking for a buyer. Unfortunately for the streaming service, it looks like potential buyers are no more interested than viewers. A failure which, at this stage, no longer surprises anyone.
The agony of the “French Netflix” would thus come to an end. According to the specialized site Puremédias, Salto will be definitively completed this Friday, January 20 by Delphine Ernotte, the president of France Télévisions. On this date, a Social and Economic Committee (CSE) will be held, during which the dissolution of the company and the cessation of all activities will finally be announced. Ironically, France TV was the first group to abandon ship, in March 2023.

Despite its few qualities, such a fiasco seemed inevitable. It was indeed expected that the merger between TF1 and M6 would strengthen Salto’s position, but the failure of the agreement between the two groups probably precipitated the fall of the platform. According to the Informed, only one buyer has made an offer to shareholders, namely the Spanish company Agile, which they did not retain.

However, one last hope remains for Salto. Its shareholders could indeed act for an assignment of assets in order to recover the debts of the company. If such a scenario arises, other buyers could come forward. We think in particular of Amazon, which had already expressed its interest and which is no longer occupied with the acquisition of OCS, which has since passed into the hands of Canal +.
But it is also likely that TF1, M6 and France Télévisions will definitely throw in the towel. In which case, it will be necessary to bid farewell to the one who tried to stand between Netflix and French television.
